When I took these photos, I had no concept in mind. When I work this way, the ideas usually come later after I've had a chance to analyze them. There was a subconscious reason why I pressed the shutter button, but at the time I didn't understand.
Here's what I've figured out so far. Several photos are of inaccessible places, impossible to traverse A‘ā lava flows, cliff faces with dangerous surf or vegetative walls. Even though several places are inaccessible, you can find changes made by man.
This series is in progress.
On a personal note, I was hesitant to go to Hawaii. My family was friends with a native Hawaiian family, who told us about what life was like for them and the hardships they faced in their native land. That, and how we acquired the islands, made it a place I wasn't interested in visiting. I went to Hawaii to see family from Japan.
